Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 53:45

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.

The governing authority of each political subdivision of the state may carry out in his jurisdiction all precautionary measures ordered by the governor and any additional precautionary measures the governing authority may deem necessary, subject to the limitations and provisions of La. Rev. Stat. 53:41.  The governing authority may make, amend or rescind any orders, rules, and regulations deemed necessary in this connection but the measures, orders, rules, and regulations shall not be inconsistent with those taken or promulgated by the governor or by the Armed Forces of the United States or by the Director of Civilian Defense.
