Agent: means an individual appointed to serve in the capacity of a superintendent. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization
Article: means a product as distinguished from its trademark, label or distinctive dress in packaging;

Certification mark: means a mark used in connection with the goods or services of a person other than the certifier to indicate geographic origin, material, mode of manufacture, quality, accuracy or other characteristics of the goods or services or to indicate that the work or labor on the goods or services was performed by members of a union or other organization;

Collective mark: means a mark used by members of a cooperative, association or other collective group or organization to identify goods or services and distinguish them from those of others, or to indicate membership in the collective group or organization;

Commissioner: means the Commissioner of Education or the commissioner's designee. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.

Elementary school: means that portion of a school that provides instruction in any combination of kindergarten through grade 8. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

Ice-skating rink: means a building, facility or premises that provides an area used for ice-skating. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 622

Kindergarten: means a one-year or 2-year childhood education program, for children at least 5 years of age, immediately prior to grade one. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

Mark: means a word, name, symbol, device or any combination of the foregoing in any form or arrangement;

Operator: means a private person or entity who owns or controls or who has operational responsibility for an ice-skating rink. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 622

Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.

Person: means an individual, corporation, government or governmental subdivision or agency, business trust, estate, trust, partnership, unincorporated association, 2 or more of the foregoing having a joint or common interest, or any other legal or commercial entity;

School administrative unit: means the state-approved unit of school administration and includes a municipal school unit, school administrative district, community school district, regional school unit or any other municipal or quasi-municipal corporation responsible for operating or constructing public schools, except that it does not include a career and technical education region. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

School board: means the governing body with statutory powers and duties for a school administrative unit. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

Secondary school: means that portion of a school that provides instruction in any combination of grades 9 through 12. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

Service mark: means a mark used by a person to identify services and to distinguish them from the services of others;

Skater: means a person in an ice-skating rink for the purpose of skating. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 622

State board: means the State Board of Education. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

Trade name: means a work, name, symbol, device or any combination of the foregoing in any form or arrangement used by a person to identify his business, vocation or occupation and distinguish it from the business, vocation or occupation of others. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 1211

Trademark: means a mark used by a person to identify goods and to distinguish them from the goods of others; [PL 1969, c. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 1211

Unorganized territory: means territory not part of a municipality. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 3201
