Terms Used In Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 679
- Department: means the Department of Health and Human Services. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 1-A
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
State regulation of low-level radioactive waste disposal is subject to the primary jurisdiction of the Department of Health and Human Services, as specified in section 676, except that disposal of low-level radioactive waste in the State is also subject to regulation by the Department of Environmental Protection.
