  • Adult: means a person who has attained the age of 18 years. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
  • Board: means the State Parole Board. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 34-A Sec. 5001
  • Commissioner: means the Commissioner of Corrections or his designee, except that, when the term "commissioner and only the commissioner" is used, the term applies only to the person appointed Commissioner of Corrections and not to any designee. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 34-A Sec. 1001
  • Correctional facility: means any facility that falls under the jurisdiction of the department, but does not include any facility for which the department is required to establish standards pursuant to section 1208 or 1208?A. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 34-A Sec. 1001
  • Department: means the Department of Corrections. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 34-A Sec. 1001
  • Detention facility: means the Long Creek Youth Development Center. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 34-A Sec. 1001
  • Extradition: The formal process of delivering an accused or convicted person from authorities in one state to authorities in another state.
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Juvenile: means a person under the age of 18 years or a person who is alleged to have committed, while under the age of 18 years, any acts or offenses covered by Title 15, Part 6, regardless of whether, at the time of the proceeding, the person is of the age of 18 years or over. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 34-A Sec. 5001
  • Parole: is a release procedure by which a person may be released from a correctional facility by the State Parole Board prior to the expiration of the person's maximum term, parole status being in effect under Title 17-A, section 2314, subsection 2, with all provisions of prior laws governing parole continuing in effect. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 34-A Sec. 5001
  • Probable cause: A reasonable ground for belief that the offender violated a specific law.
  • Probation: means a procedure under which a person found guilty of an offense is released by the court, without being committed to a correctional facility, or with or without commitment to jail or fine, subject to conditions imposed by the court. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 34-A Sec. 5001
  • Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.
  • Regional correctional administrator: means the supervisor of adult probation and parole services or the supervisor of juvenile community corrections officer services for a region. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 34-A Sec. 1001
