- Academic programming agreement: means an agreement between an interim program and a responsible school through which the responsible school agrees to accept the academic programming, credits and documentation of achievement of standards completed by a student in the interim program. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 5161
- accumulated contributions: includes as much of the employer's contribution in the Retirement Allowance Fund as is needed to reach 7. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
- Actuarial equivalent: means an amount of equal value when computed at the discount rate contained in actuarial assumptions adopted by the board. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
- Actuary: means the individual or the organization designated by the board to be the technical advisor to the board under section 17107. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
- Administrator: means the Superintendent of Consumer Credit Protection within the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 1395
- Administrator: means the Superintendent of Consumer Credit Protection within the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 1400-A
- Adult: means a person who has attained the age of 18 years. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
- Adult education: means education programs primarily operated for individuals beyond the compulsory school ages and administered by school administrative units. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
- Adviser: means a person who, at the request of the issuer, a confirmer or another adviser, notifies or requests another adviser to notify the beneficiary that a letter of credit has been issued, confirmed or amended. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 11 Sec. 5-1102
- Affidavit: A written statement of facts confirmed by the oath of the party making it, before a notary or officer having authority to administer oaths.
- Affiliated: means a person, directly or indirectly through one or more intermediaries, who controls, is controlled by or is under common control of, another person. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 1395
- Agent: means an individual appointed to serve in the capacity of a superintendent. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
- Alternate payee: means a spouse, former spouse, child or other dependent of a member or retiree who is recognized by a domestic relations order as having a right to receive all or a portion of the benefits payable by the retirement system with respect to that member or retiree. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
- Alternative education program: means a program in which the primary purpose is to provide at-risk students with curricula and assessment in a setting designed to effectively meet the student's academic, social and relational needs. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
- Alternative learning: means an educational option that a public school or publicly supported program offers at-risk students by offering some combination of the following: alternative education programs; small class size; flexible scheduling; relevant alternative curricula and assessment; mentoring adults; skilled teachers; a focus on social, emotional and relationship skills; collaboration among home, school and social service agencies; and any other measures designed to accommodate the needs of at-risk students. - Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
- Ancient burying ground: means a cemetery established before 1880 in which burial is restricted to:
