- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
(a) A local jurisdiction may enact a local law providing for legal representation in eviction proceedings filed in the local jurisdiction.
(b) If a local jurisdiction enacts a local law under subsection (a) of this section providing for legal representation in eviction proceedings substantially similar to that described in this subtitle, MLSC shall direct funding that would have been allocated under this subtitle for the benefit of that local jurisdiction’s tenants to the local program.
