Terms Used In Michigan Laws 12.292

  • Authority: means the Michigan finance authority created by Executive Reorganization Order No. See Michigan Laws 12.272
  • Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. See Michigan Laws 8.3o
  Except as otherwise provided in this section, any legal action against the authority shall be brought in the Michigan court of appeals, which has exclusive jurisdiction. However, any legal actions against the authority seeking money damages shall be brought in the court of claims for this state, which has exclusive original jurisdiction with respect to actions against the authority seeking money damages.
