  • Authority: means the Michigan tobacco settlement finance authority created under section 4. See Michigan Laws 129.263
  • Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  Except as otherwise provided in this section, any legal action against the authority shall be brought in the Michigan court of appeals, which shall have exclusive jurisdiction. However, any legal actions against the authority seeking money damages shall be brought in the Michigan court of claims, which shall have exclusive original jurisdiction with respect to actions against the authority seeking money damages.
