Terms Used In Michigan Laws 390.1623

  • Approved postsecondary educational institution: means any of the following:
  (i) A public or private college or university, junior college, or community college that grants degrees or certificates and is located in this state. See Michigan Laws 390.1622
  • Department: means the department of treasury. See Michigan Laws 390.1622
  • Fiscal year: means a fiscal year of this state. See Michigan Laws 390.1622
  • Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Michigan promise grant: means a grant awarded by the department under this act. See Michigan Laws 390.1622
  •   By April 1 of each year, the department shall submit a report on its activities under this act to the governor and to the standing committees of the senate and house of representatives with primary jurisdiction over higher education issues. The report shall contain all of the following information:
      (a) The number of Michigan promise grants and the amount of Michigan promise grant money paid by the department in the immediately preceding fiscal year.
      (b) A list of the number of Michigan promise grants and the amount of Michigan promise grant money paid in the immediately preceding fiscal year at each approved postsecondary educational institution.
