- Advice and consent: Under the Constitution, presidential nominations for executive and judicial posts take effect only when confirmed by the Senate, and international treaties become effective only when the Senate approves them by a two-thirds vote.
- director: means the director of the bureau or his or her duly authorized representative. See Michigan Laws 418.201
- state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. The director shall be appointed by the governor, with the advice and consent of the senate, for a term of 3 years, beginning on February 1, 1967 and each 3 years thereafter. The director shall hold office until his successor is appointed and qualified. The director shall receive an annual salary as appropriated by the legislature. He shall be subject to removal by the governor for cause after due notice and hearing. A vacancy shall be filled for an unexpired term in the same manner as the original appointment. The director shall be entitled to necessary traveling expenses incurred in the performance of official duties subject to the standardized travel regulations of the state.
