In each place of business in the state in which an art merchant regularly engages in the sale of multiples, the art merchant shall post, in a conspicuous place, a legible sign substantially stating the following:
   “Section 2 of the art multiples sales act, Act No. _____ of the Public Acts of _____, being section _____ of the Michigan Compiled Laws, provides for the disclosure in writing of certain information concerning certain prints and photographs. This information is available to you in accordance with the law.”

Terms Used In Michigan Laws 442.354

  • Art merchant: means a person who deals in multiples, or who by his or her occupation holds himself or herself out as having knowledge or skill peculiar to a person who deals in multiples, or who employs a broker, agent, or other intermediary who holds himself or herself out as having knowledge or skill peculiar to a person who deals in multiples.   • in writing: shall be construed to include printing, engraving, and lithographing; except that if the written signature of a person is required by law, the signature shall be the proper handwriting of the person or, if the person is unable to write, the person's proper mark, which may be, unless otherwise expressly prohibited by law, a clear and classifiable fingerprint of the person made with ink or another substance.   • Multiples: means prints, photographs, photographic negatives, or other objects of visual art which are produced in more than 1 copy and sold, offered for sale, or consigned in, into, or from the state for value exceeding $100. See Michigan Laws 442.351a
  • Sale: means sale or exchange. See Michigan Laws 442.351a
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. See Michigan Laws 8.3o
