  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories.    An employee of the former state judicial council serving in the circuit court in the third judicial circuit who becomes an employee of the Wayne county judicial council or the county of Wayne serving in the circuit court in the third judicial circuit on October 1, 1996 shall remain a member of the state employees’ retirement system created by the state employees’ retirement act, Act No. 240 of the Public Acts of 1943, being section 38.1 to 38.49 of the Michigan Compiled Laws. An employee of the former state judicial council serving in the recorder’s court of the city of Detroit who becomes an employee of the Wayne county judicial council or the county of Wayne serving in the recorder’s court of the city of Detroit on October 1, 1996 shall remain a member of the state employees’ retirement system created by the state employees retirement act, Act No. 240 of the Public Acts of 1943, being section 38.1 to 38.49 of the Michigan Compiled Laws. The employer of the employees described in this section shall submit the reports and contributions required under section 44a of the state employees retirement act, Act No. 240 of the Public Acts of 1943, being section 38.44a of the Michigan Compiled Laws.
