Any person, firm, or corporation, who by means of any newspaper, periodical, poster, notice, or other mode of publication or reproduction, publishes or sells reports of betting odds on horse races wherever conducted is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than 1 year or a fine of not more than $1,000.00.
   This section does not apply to trotting or pacing races permitted to be held in this state, nor to races conducted at state or county fairs or other fairs conducted by agricultural societies; nor as prohibiting the publication of matters pertaining to pedigrees, entries or results of races excepted by this section, or programs for the use solely of spectators at races nor to any publication designed solely for the benefit of breeders or purchasers of stock.

  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • person: may extend and be applied to bodies politic and corporate, as well as to individuals. See Michigan Laws 8.3l
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories.
