An institution of higher education may engage in the research and study of the growth, cultivation, or marketing of industrial hemp as authorized by Section 7606 of the federal Agricultural Act of 2014, Pub. L. 113-79, or any successor law. Institutions of higher education shall not be required to obtain a registration for the production of industrial hemp from the department as set forth in sections 195.746 and 195.749.
