  • Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.

In addition to the penalties and remedies provided in sections 196.311 to 196.361, if the director determines, after inquiry and opportunity for a hearing, that any individual is in violation of any provision of sections 196.311 to 196.361 or any regulation promulgated thereunder, the director shall have the authority to assess a civil penalty of not more than five hundred dollars for each violation and not more than five hundred dollars for each day such violation continues. Any individual aggrieved by any act of the director under this section may appeal according to the provisions of chapter 621.
