Terms Used In Montana Code > Title 7 > Chapter 14 > Part 16 - Railway Authorities

  • Authority: means a rail authority as provided in this part. See Montana Code 7-14-1601
  • Board: means a board of county commissioners. See Montana Code 7-14-1601
  • Common carrier: means a railroad engaged in transportation for hire. See Montana Code 7-14-1601
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Directors: means the directors of the rail authority. See Montana Code 7-14-1601
  • Joint resolution: A legislative measure which requires the approval of both chambers.
  • Lease: A contract transferring the use of property or occupancy of land, space, structures, or equipment in consideration of a payment (e.g., rent). Source: OCC
  • Person: includes a corporation or other entity as well as a natural person. See Montana Code 1-1-201
  • Presiding officer: A majority-party Senator who presides over the Senate and is charged with maintaining order and decorum, recognizing Members to speak, and interpreting the Senate's rules, practices and precedents.
  • Property: means real and personal property. See Montana Code 1-1-205
  • Quorum: The number of legislators that must be present to do business.
  • State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Montana Code 1-1-201
  • Testimony: Evidence presented orally by witnesses during trials or before grand juries.
  • United States: includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Montana Code 1-1-201
