Terms Used In New Hampshire Revised Statutes 372:13

  • Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
  • petition: when used in connection with the equity jurisdiction of the superior court, and referring to a document filed with the court, shall mean complaint, and "petitioner" shall mean plaintiff. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:51
  • state: when applied to different parts of the United States, may extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories, so called; and the words "United States" shall include said district and territories. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:4
  • Summons: Another word for subpoena used by the criminal justice system.
If either party is aggrieved by the award of the department of transportation, such party, within 60 days after the report is filed in the office of the secretary of state, and not after, may file in the office of the clerk of the superior court of the county in which the land is situated a petition to have the landowner’s damages assessed by a jury, upon which petition the clerk shall issue a summons; and, after the summons has been served, the court shall assess such damages by a jury, unless the parties agree upon a different method.
