Terms Used In New Hampshire Revised Statutes 471-C:31-a

  • Administrator: means the state treasurer, or designee. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 471-C:1
  • Assets: (1) The property comprising the estate of a deceased person, or (2) the property in a trust account.
  • Owner: means a depositor in the case of a deposit, a beneficiary in case of a trust other than a deposit in trust, a creditor, claimant, or payee in the case of other intangible property, or a person having a legal or equitable interest in property subject to this chapter or his legal representative. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 471-C:1
  • petition: when used in connection with the equity jurisdiction of the superior court, and referring to a document filed with the court, shall mean complaint, and "petitioner" shall mean plaintiff. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:51
  • State: means any state, district, commonwealth, territory, insular possession, or any other area subject to the legislative authority of the United States. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 471-C:1
For periods after January 1, 1985, any owner who comes forward to make a claim for assets which have escheated to the state or counties may petition for payment of those assets. Upon receiving sufficient proof of the validity of such owner claim , the administrator shall pay such claim to the owner in accordance with the provisions of this chapter. For funds requested and approved, the governor is authorized to draw a warrant from any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated.
