- Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization

In special cases the court may, within the appropriation limits established by the legislature, allow a reasonable compensation to masters for their services and expenses, including stenographer’s fees in cases where the employment of a stenographer is authorized by the court, which shall be paid by the state.
