Terms Used In New Hampshire Revised Statutes 540:1-c

  • governing body: shall mean the board of selectmen in a town, the board of aldermen or council in a city or town with a town council, the school board in a school district or the village district commissioners in a village district, or when used to refer to unincorporated towns or unorganized places, or both, the county commissioners. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:48
  • Service of process: The service of writs or summonses to the appropriate party.
The governing body of a municipality may establish a fine not to exceed $100 for the failure to file a statement designating an agent for service of process as required under N.H. Rev. Stat. § 540:1-b. Any such fine may be collected in the same manner as a fine for violation of a municipal ordinance, and shall be for the use of the municipality.
