I. Any state employee who is a certified disaster relief service volunteer of the American Red Cross may, with the authorization of the employee’s supervisor, be granted leave not to exceed 15 working days in any fiscal year to participate in specialized disaster relief service work if:
(a) The request for service is made by the American Red Cross; and

  • Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
  • state: when applied to different parts of the United States, may extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories, so called; and the words "United States" shall include said district and territories. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:4

(b) The disaster is designated as level III or above according to the American National Red Cross regulations and procedures.
II. An employee granted leave under this section shall not lose seniority, accumulated vacation leave, sick leave, or earned overtime. In addition, the employee shall be paid the employee’s regular pay based on regular work hours during the leave.
III. The state shall not be liable for workers’ compensation claims of the employee arising out of the disaster relief service work performed pursuant to this section.
