Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 2A:153-2

  • Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. 2A:153-2. The board of chosen freeholders of any county, on the recommendation and request in writing of the prosecutor of the county, approved by a judge of the Superior Court may offer a reward not exceeding $5,000 for the detection and apprehension of any person guilty of murder, kidnapping, burglary, robbery, arson or other heinous crime in such county, the reward to be payable after conviction out of such funds of the county as may be applicable thereto. The reward shall be paid to such person or persons as the board of chosen freeholders may, in its discretion, deem entitled thereto.
