Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 2A:53-3

  • Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. No political committee or committee of any political party, and no person who has received or accepted a nomination for a political office, shall pay or promise to pay any money to or on behalf of a person for fees for the declaration or application for naturalization, for services as attorney or counsel or otherwise assisting or enabling a person to make the declaration or application.

Any person convicted of violating the provisions of this section shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished by a fine of not less than $500 nor more than $1,000.
