Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 2A:67A-1

  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State.   • Testimony: Evidence presented orally by witnesses during trials or before grand juries.
Whenever a municipal or county governing body, any committee thereof, any board, commission, officer or body of any county, municipality, school district, or other special district or ad hoc local authority, is authorized or required by law to conduct any hearing or investigation, take testimony or make any determination affecting the rights, property, or obligations of any person, it may proceed in accordance with this act which shall be construed as in addition to and not in lieu of any other procedure provided by law.
