Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 38A:3-1.2

  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State.   • Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
As used in chapter 3 of Title 38A of the New Jersey Statutes:

a. “Department” means the Department of Military and Veterans’ Affairs established pursuant to N.J.S. 38A:3-1 et seq. as amended;

b. “Veteran” means any person who has served in any branch of the armed forces of the United States for at least 90 days, except that if the term “veteran” is defined differently in any of the statutes cited by this act or in any federal statute, that definition shall be applicable for the purposes of those statutes.
