Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 41:2-4

  • oath: includes "affirmation. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
  • Oath: A promise to tell the truth.
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. Any court of judicature or any commissioned officer of the United Army, Navy or Marine Corps shall administer the oath of allegiance to such person as shall be by law required to take the same in such court; provided, that when said oath of allegiance shall be taken before a commissioned officer there shall be a recital that he is such commissioned officer including a recital of his rank and official designation as such and that the person taking such oath is in the military or naval service of the United States.
