  • Tort: A civil wrong or breach of a duty to another person, as outlined by law. A very common tort is negligent operation of a motor vehicle that results in property damage and personal injury in an automobile accident.

The council is exempt from the provisions of the Procurement Code and the Personnel Act. The council members and employees shall be subject to the Tort Claims Act N.M. Stat. Ann. § 41-4-1 to 41-4-27 and shall be provided all insurance and self- insurance coverage provided by the risk management division of the general services department.
