§ 340. Surrender of license and evidences of registration. (a) Any person whose operator's or chauffeur's license or registration certificates or registration plates have been suspended as provided in this article and have not been reinstated shall immediately return every such license, registration certificate and registration plates held by such person to the commissioner. Any person wilfully failing to comply with this requirement is guilty of a misdemeanor.

(b) The commissioner is hereby authorized to take possession of any license, registration certificate or registration plates upon the suspension thereof under the provisions of this article or to direct any peace officer, acting pursuant to his special duties or police officer to take possession thereof and to return the same to the office of the commissioner.
