(A) Except as provided in division (B) of this section, on payment of the renewal fee and submission of proof satisfactory to the state cosmetology and barber board that any applicable continuing education requirements have been completed, an individual currently licensed as:

  • Advanced cosmetologist: means an individual authorized to work in a beauty salon and engage in all branches of cosmetology. See Ohio Code 4713.01
  • Advanced esthetician: means an individual authorized to work in an esthetics salon, but no other type of salon, and engage in the practice of esthetics, but no other branch of cosmetology. See Ohio Code 4713.01
  • Advanced hair designer: means an individual authorized to work in a hair design salon, but no other type of salon, and engage in the practice of hair design, but no other branch of cosmetology. See Ohio Code 4713.01
  • Advanced manicurist: means an individual authorized to work in a nail salon, but no other type of salon, and engage in the practice of manicuring, but no other branch of cosmetology. See Ohio Code 4713.01
  • Advanced natural hair stylist: means an individual authorized to work in a natural hair style salon, but no other type of salon, and engage in the practice of natural hair styling, but no other branch of cosmetology. See Ohio Code 4713.01
  • Cosmetologist: means an individual authorized to engage in all branches of cosmetology in a licensed facility. See Ohio Code 4713.01
  • Cosmetology: means the art or practice of embellishment, cleansing, beautification, and styling of hair, wigs, postiches, face, body, or nails. See Ohio Code 4713.01
  • Cosmetology instructor: means an individual authorized to teach the theory and practice of all branches of cosmetology at a school of cosmetology. See Ohio Code 4713.01
  • Esthetician: means an individual who engages in the practice of esthetics but no other branch of cosmetology in a licensed facility. See Ohio Code 4713.01
  • Esthetics instructor: means an individual who teaches the theory and practice of esthetics, but no other branch of cosmetology, at a school of cosmetology. See Ohio Code 4713.01
  • Hair design instructor: means an individual who teaches the theory and practice of hair design, but no other branch of cosmetology, at a school of cosmetology. See Ohio Code 4713.01
  • Hair designer: means an individual who engages in the practice of hair design but no other branch of cosmetology in a licensed facility. See Ohio Code 4713.01
  • Manicurist: means an individual who engages in the practice of manicuring but no other branch of cosmetology in a licensed facility. See Ohio Code 4713.01
  • Natural hair style instructor: means an individual who teaches the theory and practice of natural hair styling, but no other branch of cosmetology, at a school of cosmetology. See Ohio Code 4713.01
  • Natural hair stylist: means an individual who engages in the practice of natural hair styling but no other branch of cosmetology in a licensed facility. See Ohio Code 4713.01
  • state: means the state of Ohio. See Ohio Code 1.59

(1) A cosmetology instructor who has previously been licensed as a cosmetologist or an advanced cosmetologist, is entitled to the reissuance of a cosmetologist or advanced cosmetologist license;

(2) An esthetics instructor who has previously been licensed as an esthetician or an advanced esthetician, is entitled to the reissuance of an esthetician or advanced esthetician license;

(3) A hair design instructor who has previously been licensed as a hair designer or an advanced hair designer, is entitled to the reissuance of a hair designer or advanced hair designer license;

(4) A manicurist instructor who has previously been licensed as a manicurist or an advanced manicurist, is entitled to the reissuance of a manicurist or advanced manicurist license;

(5) A natural hair style instructor who has previously been licensed as a natural hair stylist or an advanced natural hair stylist, is entitled to the reissuance of a natural hair stylist or advanced natural hair stylist license.

(B) No individual is entitled to the reissuance of a license under division (A) of this section if the license was revoked or suspended or the individual has an outstanding unpaid fine levied under section 4713.64 of the Revised Code.
