(a)  Any importer license and any license issued by the tax administrator authorizing a dealer to sell cigarettes in this state shall expire at midnight on June 30 next succeeding the date of issuance unless (1) suspended or revoked by the tax administrator, (2) the business with respect to which the license was issued changes ownership, (3) the importer or dealer ceases to transact the business for which the license was issued, or (4) after a period of time set by the administrator; provided such period of time shall not be longer than three (3) years, in any of which cases the license shall expire and terminate and the holder shall immediately return the license to the tax administrator.

  • Administrator: means the tax administrator;

    (2)  "Cigarettes" means and includes any cigarettes suitable for smoking in cigarette form, and each sheet of cigarette rolling paper, including but not limited to, paper made into a hollow cylinder or cone, made with paper or any other material, with or without a filter suitable for use in making cigarettes;

    (3)  "Dealer" means any person whether located within or outside of this state, who sells or distributes cigarettes and/or other tobacco products to a consumer in this state;

    (4)  "Distributor" means any person:

    (A)  Whether located within or outside of this state, other than a dealer, who sells or distributes cigarettes and/or other tobacco products within or into this state. See Rhode Island General Laws 44-20-1

  • Importer: means any person who imports into the United States, either directly or indirectly, a finished cigarette or other tobacco product for sale or distribution;

    (6)  "Licensed" when used with reference to a manufacturer, importer, distributor or dealer, means only those persons who hold a valid and current license issued under § 44-20-2 for the type of business being engaged in. See Rhode Island General Laws 44-20-1

  • sell: means gifts, exchanges, and barter of cigarettes and/or other tobacco products. See Rhode Island General Laws 44-20-1

(b)  Every holder of a dealer’s license shall annually, on or before February 1 of each year, renew its license by filing an application for renewal along with a twenty-five dollar ($25.00) renewal fee. The renewal license is valid for the period July 1 of that calendar year through June 30 of the subsequent calendar year.
