(a)  The account shall be filed with the court to which the writ is returnable within twenty (20) days after the service.

Terms Used In Rhode Island General Laws 10-17-4

  • Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
  • Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.
  • Plaintiff: The person who files the complaint in a civil lawsuit.
  • Writ: A formal written command, issued from the court, requiring the performance of a specific act.

(b)  In the case of wage garnishments, supplementary accounts shall be filed monthly thereafter until one of three (3) events occurs:

(1)  The entire amount of plaintiff‘s demand and costs of suit has been collected by the garnishee and reported to the court.

(2)  The defendant is no longer employed by the garnishee.

(3)  Plaintiff has released the garnishee from any obligation to file further accounts.
