(a)  In accordance with the provisions of chapter 27 of Title 42, the governor, on behalf of this state, is authorized to enter into agreements with the federal government providing for discontinuance of certain of the federal government’s responsibilities with respect to radiation sources and the assumption of those responsibilities by this state.

  • Person: means any individual, corporation, partnership, firm, association, trust, estate, public or private institution, group, agency, political subdivision of this state, any other state or political subdivision or agency of any other state, and any legal successor, representative, agent or agency of these, and other than federal government agencies licensed by the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission, or any successor to the commission.   • Radiation: means :

    (i)  Ionizing radiation including gamma rays, x-rays, alpha particles, beta particles, and other atomic or nuclear particles or rays; and

    (ii)  Any electromagnetic radiation that can be generated during the operation of a microwave oven. See Rhode Island General Laws 23-1.3-1

(b)  Any person who, on the effective date of an agreement under subsection (a), possesses a license issued by the federal government shall be deemed to possess the license pursuant to a license issued under this chapter, which shall expire either ninety (90) days after receipt from the administrator of a notice of expiration of the license, or on the date of expiration specified in the federal license, whichever is earlier.
