Terms Used In South Carolina Code 38-72-10

  • insurance: includes annuities. See South Carolina Code 38-1-20
  • Long term care insurance: means an insurance policy or a rider advertised, marketed, offered, or designed to provide coverage for not less than twelve consecutive months for each covered person on an expense incurred, indemnity, prepaid, or other basis, for one or more necessary or medically necessary diagnostic, preventive, therapeutic, rehabilitative, maintenance, or personal care services, provided in a setting other than an acute care unit of a hospital. The purpose of this chapter is to promote the public interest, to promote the availability of long term care insurance policies, to protect applicants for long term care insurance as defined from unfair or deceptive sales or enrollment practices, to establish standards for long term care insurance, to facilitate public understanding and comparison of long term care insurance policies, and to facilitate flexibility and innovation in the development of long term care insurance coverage.
