(a) This section shall be known and may be cited as the “Debra Johnson Act.”

  • Funeral and burial expenses: includes , but is not limited to, the cost of preparing the body for burial or other disposition, the funeral service, any funeral merchandise, flowers, honoraria, acknowledgment cards, postage, transporting the body to the place of burial or disposition, the burial space, crypt, mausoleum or other final resting place, the opening and closing thereof and any marker.   • State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the several territories of the United States. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
(b) The department of correction may, if the commissioner of correction deems it appropriate, contribute up to two thousand dollars ($2,000) in state funds toward the funeral and burial expenses, as defined in § 1-3-105, of any correctional employee killed in the line of duty.
