(a) A resident individual applying for an insurance producer license shall pass a written examination unless exempt pursuant to § 56-6-109. The examination must test the knowledge of the individual concerning the lines of authority for which application is made, the duties and responsibilities of an insurance producer, and the insurance laws and rules of this state.   • Commissioner: means the commissioner of commerce and insurance. See Tennessee Code 56-6-102
  • Insurance: means any of the lines of authority in §. See Tennessee Code 56-6-102
  • Insurance producer: means a person required to be licensed under the laws of this state to sell, solicit or negotiate insurance. See Tennessee Code 56-6-102
  • License: means a document issued by this state's commissioner authorizing a person to act as an insurance producer for the lines of authority specified in the document. See Tennessee Code 56-6-102
  • Person: means an individual or a business entity. See Tennessee Code 56-6-102
  • State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the several territories of the United States. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
  • written: includes printing, typewriting, engraving, lithography, and any other mode of representing words and letters. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
(1) Be at least eighteen (18) years of age; and
(2) Meet all other requirements for an insurance license developed and conducted under rules prescribed by the commissioner.
(b) The commissioner may make arrangements, including contracting with an outside testing service, for administering examinations and collecting the nonrefundable examination fee.
(c) An individual who fails to appear for the examination as scheduled or fails to pass the examination, shall reapply for an examination and remit all required fees and forms before being rescheduled for another examination.
(d)

(1) An individual who fails to pass the examination on the first attempt must wait at least ten (10) calendar days before reapplying to take the examination a second time.
(2) An individual who fails to pass the examination on the second attempt, or any subsequent attempt, must wait at least thirty (30) calendar days before reapplying to take the examination another time.
