Terms Used In Texas Election Code 213.014

  • Presiding officer: A majority-party Senator who presides over the Senate and is charged with maintaining order and decorum, recognizing Members to speak, and interpreting the Senate's rules, practices and precedents.

If a canvassing authority that normally makes the canvass following a recount consists of more than five members, the presiding officer of the authority may require the canvass to be made by a committee composed of the presiding officer and four other members of the canvassing authority designated by the presiding officer.
