Terms Used In Vermont Statutes Title 24 Sec. 1316

  • Town: shall include city and wards or precincts therein; "selectboard members" and "board of civil authority" shall extend to and include the mayor and aldermen of cities; "trustees" shall extend to and include bailiffs of incorporated villages; and the laws applicable to the inhabitants and officers of towns shall be applicable to the inhabitants and similar officers of all municipal corporations.   • Village: shall mean an incorporated village. See

§ 1316. Annexation of adjacent territory to villages

The trustees of an incorporated village may petition in writing a judge of the Superior Court of the county in which such village is situated, to have commissioners appointed to determine the advisability of enlarging the limits of such village, by including territory of the town in which such village is situated. Thereupon, such judge shall appoint three disinterested freeholders, who shall act as such commissioners. (Amended 1973, No. 193 (Adj. Sess.), § 3, eff. April 9, 1974.)
