  • Board: means the Transportation Board. See
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Month: shall mean a calendar month and "year" shall mean a calendar year and be equivalent to the expression "year of our Lord. See
  • road: shall include bridges thereon and their approaches. See
  • Town: shall include city and wards or precincts therein; "selectboard members" and "board of civil authority" shall extend to and include the mayor and aldermen of cities; "trustees" shall extend to and include bailiffs of incorporated villages; and the laws applicable to the inhabitants and officers of towns shall be applicable to the inhabitants and similar officers of all municipal corporations. § 3579. Towns may require repairs

When the selectboard of a town in which such crossing is located is of the opinion that such bridge, culvert, crossing, or construction requires repairing or rebuilding in order to be safe for travel thereon, the selectboard may notify the corporation required by this chapter to repair or rebuild the same by leaving a written notice to that effect with the president, superintendent of such road, or the clerk of such corporation. When such corporation does not repair or rebuild the same within one month after such notice, the town may apply by petition to the Transportation Board to be heard thereon. Upon due notice and hearing, the Board may order and compel such repairs or rebuilding to be made as are necessary for the safety of the traveling public. (Amended 1959, No. 329 (Adj.
