Terms Used In West Virginia Code > Chapter 15 > Article 1J - The West Virginia Military Authority Act

  • Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization
  • Assets: (1) The property comprising the estate of a deceased person, or (2) the property in a trust account.
  • Authority: means the West Virginia Military Authority. See West Virginia Code 15-1J-3
  • BRIM: means the West Virginia Board of Risk and Insurance Management. See West Virginia Code 15-1J-3
  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Employee: means any person who, within the at-will employment relationship, is hired to perform duties related to national security, homeland security and other military-related or -sponsored programs. See West Virginia Code 15-1J-3
  • Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
  • Guard: means West Virginia National Guard, including its army and air components. See West Virginia Code 15-1J-3
  • PEIA: means Public Employees Insurance Act. See West Virginia Code 15-1J-3
  • PERS: means Public Employees Retirement System. See West Virginia Code 15-1J-3
  • State: when applied to a part of the United States and not restricted by the context, includes the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" also include the said district and territories. See West Virginia Code 2-2-10
  • Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
