Terms Used In West Virginia Code > Chapter 21 > Article 5E - Equal Pay for Equal Work for State Employees

  • Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization
  • Commission: means the occupational safety and health review commission established under this article. See West Virginia Code 21-3A-2
  • Commissioner: means the labor commissioner or his designated agent. See West Virginia Code 21-3A-2
  • Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.
  • Employee: means any public employee of the state, or any state agency. See West Virginia Code 21-3A-2
  • Employer: means public employer and shall include the state or any department, division, bureau, board, council, agency or authority of the state, but shall not include the department of corrections, the department of health and the Legislature. See West Virginia Code 21-3A-2
  • Joint committee: Committees including membership from both houses of teh legislature. Joint committees are usually established with narrow jurisdictions and normally lack authority to report legislation.
  • state: when applied to a part of the United States and not restricted by the context, includes the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" also include the said district and territories. See West Virginia Code 2-2-10
  • Testify: Answer questions in court.
