Terms Used In Wisconsin Statutes 786.12

  • Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
  • Minor: means a person who has not attained the age of 18 years, except that for purposes of investigating or prosecuting a person who is alleged to have violated a state or federal criminal law or any civil law or municipal ordinance, "minor" does not include a person who has attained the age of 17 years.   • State: when applied to states of the United States, includes the District of Columbia, the commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the several territories organized by Congress. See Wisconsin Statutes 990.01

Under this chapter, the court in which a guardian has been appointed for a minor or an individual adjudicated incompetent may, in addition to the provisions of this chapter, make any disposition of the real estate of the ward or authorize the purchase in the name of the ward of any real estate in this state if the court determines that the proposed disposition or purchase will substantially promote the interests of the ward.
