Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 17B:27-38

  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. There shall be a provision that the insurer shall issue to the employer, the policyholder, or other person or association in whose name such policy is issued, for delivery to each employee or member, a certificate setting forth in summary form a statement of the essential features of the insurance coverage, to whom the benefits thereunder are payable, and in substance the provisions of sections 17B:27-39 to 17B:27-46, inclusive of this chapter. This section shall not apply to blanket policies issued pursuant to section 17B:27-32a(1) and 17B:27-32a(3) of this act, nor to group health policies insuring a private plan under the Temporary Disability Benefits Law, if reasonable notice of the benefits provided thereby is furnished to the covered employees by direct notification or by conspicuous posting at the place of employment. If family members or dependents are included in the coverage, only one certificate need be issued for each family unit.
