Terms Used In Kansas Statutes 12-16,133

  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Employer: means any individual, sole proprietorship, partnership, limited liability company, corporation or any other entity that is legally doing business in this state. See Kansas Statutes 12-16,133
  • Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
  • Public employer: has the meaning specified in Kan. See Kansas Statutes 12-16,133
  • State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Kansas Statutes 77-201

For the purposes of this act*, unless the context otherwise requires:

(a) “Employee” means an individual employed in this state by an employer.

(b) (1) “Employer” means any individual, sole proprietorship, partnership, limited liability company, corporation or any other entity that is legally doing business in this state.

(2) “Employer” shall not include a public employer.

(c) “Public employer” has the meaning specified in Kan. Stat. Ann. § 75-4322, and amendments thereto.
