  • Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
  • Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
  • Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.

            No conviction in the Municipal and Traffic Court of New Orleans may be used in any trial in any district court of this state arising out of the same facts and circumstances in connection with which the defendant was charged in the Municipal and Traffic Court of New Orleans.
