- conveyance: as used in this chapter , shall be construed to embrace every instrument in writing, by which any estate or interest in real estate is created, aliened, mortgaged or assigned; or by which the title to any real estate may be affected in law or equity, except wills, leases for a term not exceeding 3 years, and executory contracts for the sale or purchase of lands. - person: may extend and be applied to bodies politic and corporate, as well as to individuals. See Michigan Laws 8.3l
- state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. See Michigan Laws 8.3o
When a married person not residing in this state joins with his or her spouse in a conveyance of real estate situated within this state, the conveyance shall have the same effect as if he or she were not married, and the acknowledgment or proof of the execution of the conveyance by him or her may be the same as if he or she were not married.
