Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 12:7-59

  • Operate: means to navigate, use, control or command a vessel. See New Jersey Statutes 12:7-71
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State.   • Vessel: means a boat or watercraft, other than a sea plane on the water, used or capable of being used as a means of transportation on water. See New Jersey Statutes 12:7-71
11. A person shall receive written notice of the penalties under section 3 of P.L.1952, c.157 (C. 12:7-46) and section 9 of P.L.1986, c.39 (C. 12:7-57), when that person is issued a license to operate a vessel, a registration certificate, a certificate of number or a certificate of ownership under chapters 7 and 7A of Title 12 of the Revised Statutes.
