Depositions taken in this state that are to be used in its courts shall be taken before:

(1) A hearing examiner;

  • Court reporter: A person who makes a word-for-word record of what is said in court and produces a transcript of the proceedings upon request.
  • Reporter: Makes a record of court proceedings and prepares a transcript, and also publishes the court's opinions or decisions (in the courts of appeals).
  • State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the several territories of the United States. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
(2) A judge, clerk, commissioner, or official reporter of a court;
(3) A licensed court reporter;
(4) A notary public; or
(5) Before other persons and under other circumstances authorized by law.
