58-74-501. Unlawful conduct.

(1)

It is unlawful for any person who does not have state certification in accordance with this chapter to:

Under the Utah Code, punishments for crimes depend on the classification. In the case of this section:

Class	Prison	Fine
class A misdemeanor	up to 364 days	up to $2,500

Court reporter: A person who makes a word-for-word record of what is said in court and produces a transcript of the proceedings upon request.
Person: means :Utah Code 68-3-12.5
Reporter: Makes a record of court proceedings and prepares a transcript, and also publishes the court's opinions or decisions (in the courts of appeals).
State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes a state, district, or territory of the United States. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5

(a)

assume the title state certified court reporter; or

(b)	assume the title or use the abbreviation C.C.R. or C.V.R. or any other similar words, letters, figures, or abbreviation to indicate that the person using that title or abbreviation is a state certified court reporter.

(2)	Violation of this provision is a class A misdemeanor.
