Terms Used In Hawaii Revised Statutes 346-55.1
- Dependent: A person dependent for support upon another.
- Public assistance: means financial assistance to or for the benefit of persons whom the department has determined to be without sufficient means of support to maintain a standard consistent with this chapter, payments to or on behalf of such persons for medical care, and social service payments as described under the Social Security Act. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 346-1
Whenever public assistance is paid to or for the benefit of any dependent child, the existence or enforcement of a duty of support owed by a noncustodial parent to such child shall not be affected by a failure or refusal by the custodial parent to implement any right as to custody or visitation granted by a court to the noncustodial parent.
