- Escrow: Money given to a third party to be held for payment until certain conditions are met.
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- organizer: means a person who agrees to contribute funds to a proposed association to be used for its organization expenses. See California Financial Code 5400

- purchaser: means a person who purchases a dog or cat from a pet dealer without the intent to resell the animal. See California Health and Safety Code 122125
- Writing: includes any form of recorded message capable of comprehension by ordinary visual means. See California Financial Code 8
